Halloween Special
The night of Halloween, the time where witches walk the streets but, more importantly, kids get candy. I was one of those kids.
At the time of this story I was probably like 11/12? The time when your parents let you go trick or treating with your friends but you can’t go far away. So, it was just me and my 4 other friends.
Like every other year we all got together
at my house and were all dressed up for trick or treating. We said goodbye to
my parents and they established a deadline for us to be back home, normal
things.
The night was going very well, we had some
wet flour that we would put on people’s mailboxes (they didn’t give us candy,
that’s a very big crime) and we were getting A LOT of candy actually.
As we were walking through a street, I heard someone call my name, my sister.
She’s there with one of her friends and gave us some information. Apparently,
there was a VERY decorated house on a street close to where we were and a WITCH
lived there. She said that if we were brave enough the witch would give us a
HUGE amount of candy.
So, as 5 12-year-old candy driven kids, we
started walking through that street. Being honest here, we were a little
scared, you know an older person tells you that and you kinda believe it. We
were feeling a mix of fear, maybe there really was a witch in that house, and
doubt, maybe it was a prank and the house didn’t even exist.
However, one of those quickly vanished as
we saw the house emerge from the darkness of night.
We saw it: a 2-story house FILLED with Halloween decorations. Worried about
what would happen but thinking more about the amount of candy we would get, we
rang the doorbell.
Not even 30 seconds passed and a witch came
out of the house; a very adorable looking old woman dressed as a witch. She
looks at us and invites us in and since my sister told us she was cool, we
didn’t even think twice.
(thinking about it now, I was a very easy child to kidnap, at least on
Halloween)
We enter the house, that is also fully
decorated inside. The witch asks us if we want to sit, pointing at a very
comfortable looking couch. Her living room also had cobwebs and ghosts spread
everywhere. There were two sofas and an armchair where the lady sat. In front
of us, were two large bowls of candy and a television playing “Preço Certo”.
‘You can take as much as you want, kids’ said the kind lady, and so we did. We
stayed there for a little bit, talking to her, eating candy and watching Preço
Certo. It’s a very fond memory I hold from Halloween.
Unfortunately, the house was never as
decorated as it was that year and we never saw that kind lady again.
